Knust: “The Pioneers of Riso Print” Documentary with Secret Riso Club
7:30 PM
Garden courtyard space outside Géza
The documentary “KNUST, the pioneers of Riso print” tells the story of a post-fluxus art collective “Knust” founded in the 80’s during the large-scale squatter revolt in Nijmegen.
Since then the Knust artists have had international fame thanks to the authenticity of their colorful printed issues made with the Riso technique.
In this film we also follow the English illustrator, Charlotte Ager, during her residency at Extrapool, the headquarters of Knust. Alongside with her, we witness the making of a Riso printed art book and the incredible charm of this crafty technique.
Knust is an artist collective and independent publisher based in the city of Nijmegen, in the Netherlands. It was started in 1984 by Jan Dirk de Wilde and, today, Joyce Guley and Astrid Florentinus also form the group. During its first years, Knust came to be a reference in stencil printing, using mimeographs. The artist collective purchased its first digital duplicator a few years later and, with the experience acquired over time, they host artists from several parts of the world in their space, Extrapool's building, which is now a multidisciplinary space. The environment consists of a graphic studio and a publishing house, a sound studio, an event room, and rooms for artistic residencies.

Pre-Registration Required
TENT A (Street Fair on Maujer)
Join us for a unique workshop that combines the art of cyanotype with embracing rest and relaxation. This workshop invites participants to celebrate the idea of dolce far niente (the sweetness of doing nothing) and view rest as an act of resistance.
During the workshop, participants will not only learn the fascinating process of creating cyanotype prints but also explore the transformative power of rest. The central activity involves taking a nap directly on specially prepared cyanotype papers, allowing the body’s imprint to form captivating images. By resting on the paper, participants will create a tangible representation of their own presence and the tranquility of the moment.
After everyone has contributed their unique imprints, we will collaborate on assembling a mural that showcases the collective artwork. This mural will serve as a visual testament to the celebration of stillness and the art of being present.
Note: No prior experience in cyanotype or art is necessary. All materials will be provided. Just bring yourself and your willingness to rest and create.

BKABF started as a "what-if" and has become an inspiration that a book fair can support its vendors, rather than burdening them with the costs of production. The fair first began in 2017 with a desire to make the artworld more accessible by providing free tables to all vendors and redistributing surplus fundraising to those who need it most. The fair has created non-competitive spaces for independent publishers and artists to flourish, while also providing much needed support in a field that is not necessarily lucrative.
The fair is organized by Endless Editions, a team of volunteers who rely on fundraising to produce the fair.
